The paper inquires into the metallurgical characteristics of the inertia friction welding joints between high-temperature alloy K418 and tempered alloy steel 42CrMo on the basis of experimental data. The relation between structures and properties of the joints are determined. The results provide theoretical basis for optimization of the technological parameter. Reviewed here are the defects that commonly appear in friction bonds such as lack of bonding, weak bonding, and the reasons lead to defects. Also discussed are the nondestructive testing methods in the inertia friction welding joints between high-temperature alloy K418 and tempered alloy steel 42CrMo.
