In this topic, the development of the sintering machine and material of the Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is reviewed, and the development direction of the SLS is pointed out.Based on the research of master Sun at Rapid Manufacturing centre of HUST, the effect of polystyrene (PS) properties on the quality of the sintered parts is further researched. Research results indicate that the molecular weight, Melting volume- flow rate (MVR), particle size and noumenal intensity of PS are the primary factors that affect the quality of the sintered parts. According to the research results, the well-selecting experimentation of the PS material is performed, and the basal material- PS3 whose sintering properties is better is acquired.According to the shortages of PS3 and the development situation of functional sintering material, the principles about how to select polymer material as basal sintering material are put forward, and the polymer materials of PC, ABS and HIPS are researched based on these principles. Through the experimentation of sintering, precision, mechanical properties, the results acquired are that HIPS and PC are the better polymer material when used as the basal functional sintering material, and should be further researched and developed.The post-process of the sintered parts which are used for investment casting is researched, and the post-process technique is acquired. The problems and the methods are put forward.The post-process of the sintered parts fabricated respectively with PC, ABS and HIPS are researched. When disposing by epoxy resin solidifying system, the mechanical properties of the sintered parts fabricated respectively with PC, ABS and HIPS are increased, and PC and HIPS can replace PS3 as the basal functional sintering material by developing the epoxy resin solidifying systems which are respectively based on PC and HIPS. The methods about how to improve the mechanics properties are put forward.
