Rapid Prototyping is an advanced manufacture technology, commercial beginning in the late 1980's. It is an integrated technology of CAD, CAM, CNC, laser and new materials science, it shows a wide application prospect. Selective laser sintering is one of the methods of RP with maturation and commodity. To the method of SLS, it has the widely selective field of molding material, wide-ranging useful and having no use for the clamping fixture and mould. So, it becomes more and more important whether in the domestic or foreign country. In this paper, some experiments have been carried out to investigate the different process parameters, such as laser power, scanning velocity, preheat temperature, layer thickness and degree of packing, to the influences of consolidation process under the processing of dot irradiation and line scanning. Then, a mathematical model for coated sand thermal consolidation process is provided. The model has been setting through the method of contra-count and thermal imager. Using the finite element software, the effects of different processing parameters on the temperature field of coated sand thermal consolidation process and the consolidation field are analyzed. The numerical simulation results have an agreement with the experimental results. On the basis of experimental research and numerical simulation, proper process parameters were determined, and some samples with different three-dimensional shape were manufactured.
