Water-soluble crude polysaccharide has been extracted from Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bge. After the crude polysaccharide was deproteinized by the combined methods of enzyme and Sevage, ultrafiltered, purified by Sepharose CL-6B gel filtration , AAB1 was got. AAB1 was proved to be homopolysaccharide by HPLC and Determination of specific rotation. AAB1 was acid polysaccharide. furthermore, GC analysis indicated that AAB1 was composed of Xyl,Man,Gal,GalA,Glc and its molar ratio is 1:11:1.75:7.92:1.2. Partial hydrolysis with acid, Periodate oxidation, Smith degradation, IR, and Methylation were used on the structure analysis of AAB1. After hydrolyztion, deoxidization and acetylation, the methylated productions were analyzed by GC-MS The results revealed that :The main chain of AAB1 was composed of(1→3)-linked-GalA ,(1→4)-linked-Man, which was substituted at (0→6)Man, and both were linked discontinuously. The side chain were mainly made up of (1→4)-linked-Man,(1→3)-linked-Man,(1→3)-linked-GalA,(1→3,6)-linked-Gal,(1→4,6)-linked-Gal,(1→4,6)-linked-Glc. Man,Glc,Gal constitute the edge of AAB1.
