In the coal industry,it is often necessary to have suitable quantitative data avaitable concerning the chemical concentrations, quantity of moisture-total or heat in coal. Moisture-total is a main mark of coal character.Untill the recent years, these information was obtained by means of sampling techniques associated with conventional chemical analysis. These methods are ill-suited to plant automation for its low efficiency. The nuclear techniques, owing to the penetration power of the radiations, can provide a new control prospects that will eliminate the difficulties linking to the sampling techinques, hereby allowing direct on-line analysis of the coal .Neutron-induced prompt gamma-ray analysis(NIPGA) can be used for fast analysis of coal .Fast-thermal neutron interact with the nucleus of the coal to produce inelastic scattering(n, n' γ) reaction and neutron cappture(n, γ) reaction. We can obtain the chemical concentrations in coal by means of induced prompt gamma-ray spectrum ,thereby calculate the quantity of moisture-total.Pulsed neutron generator brings valuable help in this methed for its fast open-shut capability .This paper introduce the analysis method, principle and system of the moisture-total by means of the fast-thermal neutron-induced gamma-ray by pulsed neutron generator. We avoid the interference of different elements with the multiple linear regression on spectra. The deviation of the moisture-total between NIPGA and conventional chemical anylysis is less than 0.5% .
