The water demand of ecological environment is a comprehensive topic about many subjects and is an important foundation about reasonable disposition of water resources and construction of ecological environment. At present, the research on the water demand of ecological environment is just at starting. Many theories and methods wait for development. Some particular questions wait for solving.Based on preceding research results, this thesis studies the water demand of ecological environment for middle and small rivers in high and cold area. Some solving methods for special questions are presented. The main contents of the thesis are as follows:1. The development and research progress about the water demand of ecological environment is reviewed in this paper. The research theories and methods are summarized in outline. The water demand of ecological environment is the key factor to reasonable disposition of water resources and coordinate development for the ecosystem and the economy. On the basis of analyzing hydrometeorology characteristics in high and cold area of our country, this thesis points out the importance to study the water demand and present situation of research, also emphasizes the importance to research the water demand of the area to the local economy sustainable development.2. Several concepts about the water demand of ecological environment are discussed. According to the characteristics of rivers in high and cold area, the stages of research work can be divided into the flowing and the freezing periods respectively. The modified Tanat method and the method for determining critical point of the relation between discharge and wetted perimeter are presented in this thesis.3. The Xinancha River and its branches are selected as a research example. Using the methods and the modified formulas of this thesis, the water demand of ecological environment can be calculated and the results of computation are reasonable. The methods and the formulas of this thesis can be used to determine the water demand of ecological environment for middle and small rivers in high and cold area.
