The electrical contact heating technology was applied to refine ultrapure 42CrMoVNb steel in this paper. The effects of technology parameters including quenching temperature and tempering temperature on the mechanical properties were studied systematically. The distribution of alloying elements and carbon atoms in the ultrapure 42CrMoVNb steel ultrafined were studied by means of X-ray diffraction, SEM, TEM and M?ssbauer spectroscopy. The effect of deformation on the microstructure of the steel was also investigated. Results show that the ultrapure 42CrMoVNb steel subjected to quench at the range of 880-950℃ and then temper at the range of 580-600℃ exhibited the best mechanical properties. The results of M?ssbauer spectroscopy indicated that there exists the segregation of C-Me in the ultrapure 42CrMoVNb steel. The segregation of the C-Me can retard the phase transformation, so the ultrapure 42CrMoVNb steel exhibits high stability for tempering. Deformation can promote the dislocation density in the martensite, and increase the segregation degree of the alloying elements.
