Monomethyl β- itaconate, dimethyl itaconate, dibutyl itaconate, diisooctyl itaconate and itaconic anhydride have active reaction activity, as two lively carboxyl and an unsaturated bonds exist in the molecule. They can process addition and polymerization reactions to form polymered macromolecule that is the important material to synthesize resin, plastic, increasing plasticity solution, and widely used in the industry.New process for the synthesis of monomethyl β- Itaconate using chloroacetyl chloride as catalyst was studied in this paper, The effects of amount of catalyst, ratio of reactants, reaction temperature, reaction time on the reaction results were examined and the optimum conditions were obtained. The optimum conditions were as followed: n(methyl alcohol)/n(itaconic acid)=3.5:l,n(itaconic acid) : n(chloroacetyl chloride) =1: 0.042, reaction time 1h, reaction temperature 65℃. Under these conditions, the yield and purity of monomethyl β- Itaconate were about 86% and 97% respectively.New process for the synthesis of dibutyl itaconate using sulphuric acid was studied in this paper. The effects of amount of catalyst, ratio of reactants, reaction temperature, reaction time on the reaction results were examined and the optimum conditions were obtained. The optimum conditions were as followed: The optimum conditions were as followed: n(itaconic acid):n(butyl alcohol)=1:3, m(itaconic acid):m(sulphuric acid)=1:0.01, reaction temperature 96~120℃, reaction time 4 h. Under these conditions, rate of the esterification was 99.8%, and the yield and purity of dibutyl itaconate were about 98.9% and 99.7% respectively.New process for the synthesis of diisooctyl itaconate using sulphuric acid was studied in this paper.
