Research on the extraction of benzoic acid from kerosene was taken in this paper, in which water acts as both continuous phase and extraction agent, air acts as agitation gas, kerosene acts as dispersion phase and benzoic acid acts as solute respectively. At the same time, the mass transfer and fluid mechanics properties in the above gas-liquid-liquid extraction process was also studied in this paper. Two types of motionless mixer were used in our experiment through a logical choice from different kinds of motionless mixer. The effects of gas holdup, dispersed phase holdup and mass transfer coefficient on the type of motionless mixer were studied. Analysis on the choice of motionless mixer and its application prospect in the field of industrial production were also put forward in this paper.Apparent gas velocity, apparent water velocity and apparent oil velocity have some effects on gas holdup, dispersed phase holdup and mass transfer coefficient with different impacting strength in the gas-agitated process. The effect of apparent water velocity on gas holdup is much stronger than that of apparent oil velocity, but the effect of apparent oil velocity on the mass transfer coefficient is nearly as strong as two times compared to apparent water velocity under the same changing speed in the experiment.The type of motionless mixer can influence the gas holdup, dispersed phase holdup and mass transfer coefficient on some extent. The values of gas holdup, dispersed phase holdup and mass transfer coefficient are much bigger for the type I motionless mixer than that of type II motionless mixer under the same experimental conditions. So the type and specifications for motionless mixer have a great influence on the mass transfer and fluid mechanics properties.Research on the rational exploitation and selection of motionless mixer is a very important project for its use in the manufacturing process. This study aims at obtaining optimal technical and economical efficiency for its application in the industrial process. Studies on the mass transfer and fluid mechanics properties in the extraction process under gas-agitated is very useful because it could supply fundamental technical data and designing basis for industrial applications.
