Thiourea dioxide is a novel economic and safe reducing agent. It has been widely used in various fields and has very promising future. By using thiourea and hydrogen peroxide solution as the raw materials, thiourea dioxide is usually synthesized in aqueous solvent. The reaction belongs to strong and fast exothermic reaction. Currently, most such reaction is performed in intermittent stirred-tank reactor, which usually takes long residence time with serious back mixing, and results in unstable product quality and low yield. In order to improve the product yield and quality, this paper has developed continuous pipe-style technique. The intermittent stirred-tank reactor is changed to spiral pipe-style reactor.At first, analytical method of products was set up. By determining absorbance coefficient, thiourea dioxide and thiourea are determined simultaneously by UV spectrophotometry. This method is simple, convenient and low time consuming, and with small interference, high accuracy and good recurrence.
