Since Sony Company commercialized lithium ion batteries in 1990, lithium ion battery has been paid much attention by researchers and companies worldwide due to their advantages in electrochemical properties. They have been widely used in notebooks, mobile telephones and other portable devices and have been developed quickly in recent ten years. Despite the considerable efforts to find other substituents, carbon materials still remain the only commercial anode for lithium ion batteries because of their steady structure and good circular properties.Carbon materials have large varieties in terms of morphology, texture, micro-structure, and crystallinity depending on their preparation processes and the precursor materials. Mesocarbon microbead (MCMB) is the most competitive materials for commercial carbon materials, because it has a smooth spherical structure with a uniform diameter about 5-40 μm..Compared with other carbon materials, MCMB also has the following three advantages: Firstly, it has a high packing density because of the spherical structure and has been proved to be competent in preparing high density electrodes. Secondly, the smooth surface and low surface-to-volume ratio can reduce the side reactions during the charge-discharge cycles. Thirdly, it has a high structure stability. Li-ion can insert or desert at any direction of the carbon spheres. In fact, researchers constantly concern about the Carbon spheres and carbon encapsulated metals. Our research focuses on the preparation, the investigation and the electrochemical...
