4-chlorophenol (4-CP) is widely used in chemical, petroleum, medical industry. Chlorization is also likely to produce 4-chlorophenol which belongs to non-degrad -able substance. Its toxity can lead to cancer and abnormality. Cometabolism is used to deal with such substance which is of great importance for environmental protection.Study was made on the influence factors on cometabolism of 4-chlorophenol whch is on minim level. The cometabolic degradation pathway of 4-chlorophenol and the conditions are also discussed. The experiment shows that SPE can heighten the limit concentration of machine detection. The experiment's results indicate that the phenol-induced bacteria belonging to Pseudomonas can cometabolic degrade 4-chlorophenol when growth substrate is supplied. The degradation influence factors include the kind of growth substrate, amount of inoculation culture, concentration ratio of growth substrate to non-growth substrate. When glucose, which concentration is 2.5mg/L, is chosen as growth substrate the better degradation effect is obtained during detect time (24h). As for mixed substrates including 1.25mg/L glucose and 1.25 mg/L phenol, the addition of glucose can improve the degradation of 4-chlorophenol. 4-chlorophenol can be completely degraded at the depletion of Phenol. The higher concentration ratios of growth substrate to non-growth substrate, the better cometabolic degradation effect can be obtained when glucose is chosen as growth substrate. The initial concentration of 4-chlorophenol will affect the cometabolism when concentration ratios of growth substrate to non-growth substrate is a fixed value. The lower initial concentration of 4-chlorophenol can lead to the higher 4-chlorophenol degradation percentage which indicate that the concentration of available carbon and energy sources is not the main limit factor. The inhibition and competition of intermediate metabolite is the main factor. The intermediate metabolite determined by GC-MC is phenol, which suggests that the chlorine ion can be eliminated prior to the ring fission reaction in the 4-chlorophenol degradation pathway. The result also explains why 4-chlorophenol is cometabolic degradated slowly when Phenol is used as growth substrate. It is just because of the competition of intermediate metabolite, that is Phenol, inhibit the degradation of 4-chlorophenol.
