Complexing action is universal in natural druggery, and it is reported that the biological activities of metallic complex is obvious stronger than single component due to the concordance effection. Quercetin(3,5,7,3',4'-pentahydroxyflavone) is a kind of effective component from natural druggery, which has many pharmacological actions such as anti-flammatory, antiviral and antioxidation. However, its antioxidation is weak. To exploit some new type antioxidants of metallic complex of quercetin with higher activity , research in this paper mainly involves as follows. Firstly, the present status of the study on the metallic complex with quercetin was systemically presented in this paper. Scondly, seven metallic complexes with quercetin were synthesized, which were reacted acoording to different molar ratio of reactant, and then three mixed metallic complexes with quercetin and P.M.B.P., which is a kind of chelator, were synthesized, too. They were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1HNMR and thermal analysis. Thirdly, biological activities of the ten metallic complexes were measured by means of pyrogallol autoxidation, the result shows that the antioxidative activity of the complexes are stronger than those of quercetin. Finally, quantum chemistry computation were performed to investigate the compounds by using Guassian98 program, which shows that the complexes have good stability, and they have relatively strong antioxidative activity because they are favorably attacked by O2-.. The quantum chemistry computational results are consistent with the experimental results, which offer reasonable theoretical explanation. The study is possible for experimenters to offer theoretic direction while developing new type quercetin metal complex with higher activity antioxidants. At the same time, the study offer theoretical foundation that quercetin can be used as a kind of antidote for superfluous meatal ion in body.
