Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) was a new type of material whose micro elements, including composites and structure, changed continuously with position. Although polymer materials were playing a more and more important role in the material field, the research work of functionally graded polymer materials was not enough, and most of them were concentrated on the discontinuous preparation of this kind of material. Therefore, this thesis invented a new process of co-extrusion— graded distribution— 2-dimensional mixing to realize the continuous preparation of functionally graded polymer material, in which the conventional equipment for polymer processing was used. To the requirements of the research work, a die was designed, which included a graded distribution unit and a 2-dimensional mixing unit. In the experiment, two different polymers HDPE/PS were extruded into the die from two extruders. Meanwhile, the macroscopically graded structure was generated by the graded distribution unit and then the microscopically graded structure was generated by the 2-dimensional mixing unit. The result indicated that this kind of equipment and new process were viable in the continuous preparation of functionally graded polymer materials.
