Crop stem is of affluent resource. It can be taken advantage of, and bring us both economic and environmental interest. In this dissertation, its application and potential have been discussed. Furthermore, through research on the structures, properties of crop stem, and on the application of cellulose, cellulose derivation in energy and environment protection, experimental scheme has been come up with.Here, straw was focused on and its modification was expanded into cellulose modification. In the experiments, modified straw powder with WPG was obtained by the use of etherifying agent, pretreating agent and catalyst. After the experiments, several influence factors in weight percent were discussed, such as etherifying agent, catalyst, dose and kind of solvent, reaction time and temperature and so on. As a result, the optimal combination of reaction conditions was established. At last, the products were characterized by IR, X-ray and DSC. Through IR comparison between products before and after etherification, the structure change was observed; through X-ray diffraction analysis, the etherified straw was found to have lost its crystalline structure of cellulose; through DSC analysis, the etherified straw showed glass transition temperature, which indicated the straw has been partly modified into thermoplastic material.In the experiments, a series of reaction conditions of straw modification have been determined, the feasibility and principle of straw modification have been analyzed, and the application field and foreground have been probed into.
