Choose polymerization of acrylic acid as passivation additive for ammonium nitrate. Through changing the process conditions, the method applied solution polymerization, the low molecular weight homopolymer of acrylic acid and the copolymer of acrylic acid and acrylamide were synthesized. The molecular weight of homopolymer are between 1×10~3~5×10~3, the molecular weight of copolymer are between 1 ×10~4~1 × 10~5. Applied these two polymers into ammonium nitrate as passivation additive, detected the changes of thermal ability, intensity and humidity happened on ammonium nitrate when added two polymers. We get the conclusion and analyse it: homopolymer is better than copolymer on the improvement of thermal ability, the influence of viscosity is small to the improvement, the higher weight of additive have a obviously increase on thermal ability; copolymer is better than homopolymer on the improvement of intensity, both viscosity and the weight of additive have obvious effects on the improvement; both homopolymer and copolymer don' t have improvement of the humidity, the weight of additive have no effect on improvement, the lower of viscosity obviously enhance the humidity.
