More complicated current waveform can be output by the welding inverter because of its quick response than the traditional welding power supply, then the control of welding quality can be improved to a higher level. Through the exact control of welding current, the seaming figure and crystal organization can be improved, and the splash can be reduced, therefore, the mechanical property of seaming is enhanced. AC TIG welding process is still widely used because that each welding process has its own characteristics. However, AC TIG welding inverter is inconvenient to the operators for its complicated panel. A multi-function TIG welding inverter controller is developed, which has a good man-machine interface according to the demand nowadays. Hardware system of the multi-function TIG welding inverter controller is composed of the MSP430F449 SCM control center unit and the man-machine interface unit with VK65 type LCD and digital contact encoder. The multi-function TIG welding inverter controller can be connected with the traditional welding power supply via A/D and D/A, and be communicated with digital welding inverter by RS-232. By the controller, the status data of welding inverter can be sent to PC, on the other hand, instructions sent by PC can be received and performed by the controller, and then the parameters of welding inverter can be reset. Two isolated power supply modules are adopted to the SCM control system and its peripheral circuit separately in order to prevent the high frequency interference coming from the TIG welding inverter. Photoelectric coupler devices and relays are used to guarantee the capability of anti-interference. Software system is divided into several modules which are programmed in C language, such as LCD module, key scanning module, software current waveform generator module, RS-232 communication module, RS-485 communication module and so on.
