As a kind of vital secondary metabolites in high plants, flavonoids have widely pharmacological activities. Many traditional Chinese medicines (TCM), such as Radix Puerariae, Radix Scutellariae, Folium Ginkgo and Flos Chrysanthemi Indici, characterized much pharmacological effect, contain kinds of flavonoids. One of the research focus of flavonoids is their obvious effect of antioxygenation and removing the free radical on (DM).An effective way is expected to find to develop the further study of decreasing blood glucose of single TCM. The ratios of decreasing blood glucose of Cortex Mori ,Folium Mori Albae, Ramulus Mori and mulberry cortex from mulberry on DM mice induced by STZ were studied, Date showed that Ramulus Mori had the best effect with ratio of 64.09 % near to 69.88 % of the comparison (Glibenclamide). The extraction process and content examination were studied with the methods of orthogonal test and spectrophotometry compared with Rutin; then the total flavonoids from Ramulus Mori (RMTF) were extracted with the methods of phytochemistry and examined. Result showed that RMTF could decrease the blood glucose of STZ mice and had the trend of decreasing TRIG and CHOL, The number and the cells of Langerhans Island in the pancreatic tissue increased obviously;RMTF also had resistant effect on hyperglycemia mice induced by epinephrine and glucose, but had no obvious effect on normal mice. Acute toxicity test showed that RMTF had no toxicity.RMTF is the effective ingredient of decreasing blood glucose.
