The paper takes digital warning and forecasting system of water quality in XiJiang River as background. The watercourse of Guangdong is digitized and the body-fitting grids are generated, using ArcGIS8.3. Based on the grids, the paper sets up the mathematical models of 1D constant flow, 1D inconstant flow and 2D inconstant flow, according to St .Venant equations. In the view of Xingjiang, the water quality models of 1D and 2D are set up separately aiming at organic materials and heavy metals. And this paper couples the water-quantity models and water-quality models to forecast and warn the water-quality situation.The paper collects the parameters forms of home and abroad models widely, analyzes the range of each one and establishes some experience formulas of parameters of XiJiang River.The water-quantity and water-quality coupling models are applied on Xijiang River. The paper gets some simulated and checked results, and verifies the reliability of the models. What else is special is that the fields of flow and concentration can be represented with GIS technology.
