With the rapid development of the city and the industry, the water is seriously polluted by the discharge of wastewater. The water quality is so worsen in our country that seriously influences the function of the water ecology. Moreover, it is dangerous to human's heath, and badly restricts the rapid and successive development of the society and economy. Thus, water-restoration becomes much important. Protecting and re-establishing the submerged macrophytes has become the important ecology measure to improve the water environment. There were many examples of manmade restoration, but the systems can not exist for a long time. So it is a key point to understand the relationship between the submerged macrophytes and the water environment. In this paper, the effect of the polluted water on the submerged macrophyte was studied. The results are these:(1)The nitrogen and the phosphorous have an important effect on the growth of the submerged macrophytes. In definite limit (both the concentration of TN and TP is 0~25mg/L), macrophyte grow better with the increase of nutriment. However, when the nutriment was too high, the macrophytes could absorb too much nutriment, which has a bad effect on the growth of the macrophytes. The high concentration of nitrogen is easily harmful to the submerged macrophytes than the phosphorous.(2)The suspended matter has a negative effect on the growth of submerged macrophytes in the polluted water. If the absorptive value of the suspended matter on the macrophyte is above the threshold, it might influenc the growth of submerged macrophytes. As a result, they were sick due to their photosynthesis, metabolism restricted by the suspended matter.(3)Suspended matter in the river of Suzhou is the most important factor on the growth of the submerged macrophytes. However, submerged macrophytes can endure the concentraions of TN and TP in the river of Suzhou. So the control of the suspended matter is the first measure to restore the hydrophytes in the river of Suzhou.
