This paper mainly studies the relation between density and chromaticity detection of offset printed matter in order to solve the problem of density and chromaticity detection which are the two main methods of printed matter quality detection and control in the offset printing production. And the advantages of the two detection methods are combined and the disadvantages of density and chromaticity detection are made up. Consequently, the density detection to color samples can be converted into the color measurement. Furthermore, it is likely to use the advantages of density detection in chromaticity system.At first, this paper introduces three methods of printed matter quality detection such as subjective eyeballing, density detection and chromaticity detection. The traditional research method for the relation between density and chromaticity detection is presented, and the impropriety of traditional method is also indicated. Secondly, based on the detection principle of density and chromaticity detection, the advantages and disadvantages of density and chromaticity detection are compared. At last, according to density value and chromaticity value by measuring hectograph standard color mark, experimental data is processed with the Partial Least Squares and the Back Propagation neural network. Mathematical model is established, and experimental error is analyzed. When the result of the Back Propagation neural network is compared with that of the Partial Least Squares, the conclusion that the Back Propagation neural network is better is drawn. Finally, mathematical model which can reflect the relation between density and chromaticity detection is constructed. Using the method of this paper may obtain good quality multicolor printed matter, debase the wastage, decrease the waster rate and reduce to depend on the operator's experience. It is vital to instructthe practical printing production and supervise the quality of color printed matter.
