Processing a basic key element in the link as the electrical discharge machining,the performance of the electrode material influences workpiece removal rate,machining accuracy, surface finish etc. directly, and then influences the efficiency ofprocessing.With the development of modern material science, in the field ofparticulate reinforced copper matrix composites, comparing other ceramicreinforcement,TiB2 has high melting point,rigidity and hardness, resistance to wear,low coefficient of thermal expansion, good electrical and thermal conductivity,therefore it strengthens effectually, makes electrical and thermal conductivity ofcopper matrix getting little dropping. Thus TiB2 particulate reinforced copper matrixcomposite has good electric conductivity and resist the high temperature to softenperformance, its comprehensive performance should be superior to other ceramicreinforced composites. So,in this paper, TiB2/Cu composite is adopted to explore itsapplication in the electrode material of electrical discharge machining.From the economic and practical angle, comparing and analysing many kinds ofpreparation method of TiB2/Cu composite, looking forward to the extensiveapplication, two kinds of volume content of TiB2/Cu composite prepared in powdermetallurgy were selected for use tentatively(5vol%和 40vol%).First of all, the tests ofphysical and mechanical performance were carried on.Secondly, the law of singlefactor was adopted according to the existing experimental condition, regardingworkpiece removal rate, relative wear rate as the craft index ,and studied the electriccurrent,impulse duration impacting on TiB2 particulate reinforced copper matrixcomposites separately, and studied the processing characteristic, at the same time, thetest for the comparison with copper electrode was carried on.Finally, the corrosionmechanism of TiB2/Cu composite was analyzed through utilizing PHILIPS XL-30enviromental scanning electron microscope and energy spectrum analysis.TiB2 ceramic is carried on experimental study of electrical discharge machiningand analysed the mechanism of its corrosion in this text.This thesis aims at studying through probing into, promoting the application ofparticle reinforced copper matrix composites, offering reference data and theoreticalfoundation for the development and studying of the electrode material of electricaldischarge in the future.
