To meet the need of the third high lighting photo-grade ink-spray printed paper in the market and reduce the cost, I have independently developed alumina to replace silicate as optical coating materials. Alumina is synthesized by sol-gel means. Carbon, Faecula, Tween and Cetyltrimethyl Ammonium Bromide are used as templates. Dilute nitric acid acts as catalyst for peptizing the solution by regulating the pH, then the nano-meter mesoporous alumina is received by heating to reaction, filtration, desiccation, and calcine at high temperature. The crystalline structure of the powder is analysed by X-ray diffraction method. BET method is applied to measure the specific surface area and the pore size distribution of the powder. Grain shape and grain size are observed by transmission electric microscope. The experiment results show that it is effective to gain small and even particles with nitrate and ammonia as raw materials. When fine carbon and CTAB are used as the templates, the specific surface area of the alumina powder is rather large, and its pore size distribution is very narrow. N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms have lagging loop and belong to IV type in IUPAC, which show that there is much mesoporous pore in the powder. The more the carbon is, the higher the specific surface is. The specific surface is 260m2/g and the aperture is about 4.5nm at 800℃. Using CTAB as template, the BET is respectively 337m2/g and 241 m2/g at 500℃ and 800℃, and the aperture is about 9nm. With the CTAB and C as composite templates, the specific surface is bigger than any single template, respectively 370 m2/g and 300 m2/g at 500℃ and 800℃. There is more pore volume and the aperture is about 7nm. The results show that stabilized Al2O3 slurry can be obtained with 10% solid Al2O3 and 2% PAANH4 as dispersant. The coating experiment shows that there is the ink-absorbed coated layer after coating, which can absorb ink in short order, dry rapidly, reduce the use of ink, print in good time and improve saturation and definition.
