The improvement of syngas process is a very important research field in naturegas industry. Recently, the advantage of partial oxidation of methane to syngas such aslow energy consumption, high selectivities of H2 and CO and with a H2/CO ratio closeto 2 attracted attentions of researchers.Nickel base catalyst exhibits high activity and selectivity for partial oxidation ofmethane to syngas. But during the reaction, the activity component is found to besintered and diminished. In this paper, the nickel catalysts were prepared by the powder moulding, by theprocess of mixing, moulding and sintering. Furthemore, the preparation and influencefactors of the nickel catalyst were studied. The control of pore structure and surface area of catalyst by adjusting PTFEcomponents, powder size and moulding pressure, in addition to the prevention of theactive components running-out exhibited the remarkble advantages of the powdermoulding nickel catalyst. The addition of copper can improve the desorption ablity of H2 on the surface ofpowder nickel catalyst on the reaction of partial oxidation of methane, and increasethe selectivities of H2. The effects of CH4/O2 ratio, reaction temperature, spacevelocity on the powder nickel catalyst activity were investigated. The catalysts werecharacterized to provide useful information for catalyst modification. The powder Ni-Cu catalyst has good catalytic activity on partial oxidation ofmethane to syngas. The proper conditions of preparation are as follows: the additionalamount of PTFE is 5wt%, moulding pressure is 2000Mpa, sintering temperature is420℃ (1h)/1000℃ (2h), the additional amount of Cu is 6wt%. The process conditionsbeing optimized are as follows: CH4/O2 ratio is 2.0, reaction temperature is 950℃,and space velocity is 1.4×105h-1. Under these conditions, the reaction results are asfollows: CH4 conversion is 90.1%, H2 selectivity is 87.3% and CO selectivity is87.9%, H2/CO ratio is 1.98.
