This paper mainly works over synthesis of basic magnesium chloride nanorods, magnesium hydroxide nanorods and magnesium oxide nanorods. Based on the experiments, it is analyzed the effects of process parameters on the product crystal structures and morphology, and it is confirmed the optimal process and key factors of the process parameters. The products are characterized and detected through the means, such as the X-ray diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric technique (TG). The results indicate that:Basic magnesium chlorides nanorods with diameters of 1 00nm and lengths less than 10 μ m are prepared under the following synthesis conditions: agitating rate:900r/min;synthesis temperature: 60℃;ageing time: above 24h;concentration of magnesium chloride: 4mol/L;mol ratio of MgO/MgCl2: 0.15:1;drying temperature: below 85℃.Magnesium hydroxide nanorods with diameters 1 00nm and 5 μrn of lengths are preparaed when basic magnesium chlorides nanorods are used as precursor under the following synthesis conditions: lmol/L sodium hydroxide as precipitator, synthesis temperature: 60℃;concentration of basic magnesium chloride nanorods: 0.6mol/L;mol ratio of ethanol and water: 3/1.Magnesium oxide nanorods with diameters of 100nm and lengths of 5 μ m or above are successfully synthesized by calcinating magnesium hydroxide nanorods under the temperature of 550℃ for 300min while at a low heating rate of 3℃/min. The prepared magnesium oxide nanorods is single crystal, cubic structure.
