Nanoparticles as lubrication additive is a new application due to its special properties. Now many kinds of nano-particles have been prepared and tested their tribological properties. In the paper, calcium borate nano-particles are prepared in two different W/O micro-emulsion systerms. The products are characterized by TEM, SEM and granularity analysis. Lubracating properties are also tested.Triton X-100/n-hexanol/c-hexane systerm's phase behavior is studied. It shows that when Triton X-100 and n-hexanothe is in volume ratio of 5:4, this W/O microemulsion systerm has extansive and stable microemulsion phase region. It can dissolve 24% CaCl2 or Potassium borate. Different size nanoparticles are prepared in the following concentrations: ω= 12.7-7.6, temperature varied from 20 ℃ to 40 ℃, aged time detween 9 h 24 h.As for CTAB/n-butanol/c-hexane systerm, when CTAB and n-butanol is in mass ratio of 1.5:1, the W/O microemulsion systerm has extansive and stable microemulsion phase region. Calcium borate nanoparticles with different diameter can be gained below 30℃. The size of calcium barate has a linear relationship to water core size. Aged time from 9h to 48h is feasible to control nanoparticles size smaller within 100 ran.Calcium borate nanoparticles as additive can be dispersed in 500SN with dispersing agent of Triton X-100. When adding 0.75%(wt) nanoparticles to 500SN base oil, the PB can reach to 820N, increased 49.1% to the base oil. The WSD with nanoparticles can be reduced 26% after 30min. Thus the oil with calcium borate nanoparticles possesses higher wear resistance than base oil.
