In this paper the fabricating process of SiCp reinforced aluminum foam matrix composite was studied by combining the fabricating process of aluminum matrix composite reinforced by SiC particles and the melting foaming process of aluminum foam. The sinking problem of SiC particles in the aluminum melt, the wettability and the interface reaction between SiC particles and the aluminum were discussed and solved successfully by choosing proper alloy elements, pretreating of SiCp, using special stirring and foaming process. The result shows that the porosity is partly adjustable, the distribution of SiC particles and cells can be more equable by strictly controlling the process parameters such as foaming temperature, stirring time and speed.SiC particle-reinforced aluminum foams were produced by melt foaming process, and their deforming activity under quasi-statistic pressing was analysised. The results indicate that the deforming strength of reinforced aluminum foams is between 5 — 12MPa,the reinforcing effects is obvious.Transverse and longitudinal deforming activity and energy absorption ability of aluminum foam filled tubes under quasi-statistic compression were studied, which was fabricated by stainless steel tube as its shell and SiC particle-reinforced aluminum foam as its core. The results indicate that the longitudinal deforming mode of the foam-filled tube changes from "diamond mode" to "concertina mode";The plateau region of the load-displacement curve exhibits a marked serration which is clearly related to the formation of the cylinder folds;The transverse and longitudinal energy absorption ability of foam-filled tubes are generally found to be much higher than the sum of foam (alone) and tube (alone), and the energy absorption ability of the foam-filled tube increases more quickly as the strain increasing;Energy absorption ability of the foam-filled tube is much higher than that of aluminum foam, keeping lightweight at the same time, so it will have wide use on energy absorption and protection area.
