The first research step optimizes the synthetical process on the base of plenty documents. Trinexapac-ethyl has been synthesized with maleic acid diethyl esters and acetone as materials by four steps via condensation, cyclization, esterification and rearrangement. The better synthetical conditions were investigated for each step. Overall yield was 50.4% and the intermediates and the title compound were analyzed by GC-MS.The second research step reports a new synthetic method for preparing trinexapac-ethyl. It was that 3,5-cyclohexanedione-l-carboxylate reacted with cyclopropanecarboxylic anhydride at the basic condition to yield the title compound We high spot researched the synthesis of cyclopropanecarboxylic anhydride and it reacted with 3,5-cyclohexanedione-l-carboxylate. Obtained cyclopropanecarboxylic anhydride with high yield and high purity. The gross yield of title compound trinexapac-ethyl was also increased to 51.1% from 50.4%.The better conditions were investigated for each step and the intermediates and the title compound were analyzed by GC-MS.
