In this paper four ligands of derivants of L - glutamic acid were synthesized with L-glutamic acid as material. They were 5-methyl-L-glutamate (L1), 5-ethyl-L-glutamate (12), N, N-dicarboxylmethyl-L-glutamic acid (L3), N, N-dibenzyl-L-glutamic acid (L4), respectively. Thirty-two complexes containing ligands of Mn(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Co(II), Ca(II), Mg(II) were prepared by these ligands, and three single crystals of two ligands and one coordinational compounds were obtained. The chemical formulae and possible structures of the compounds were proposed based on Elementary analysis, IR, UV-vis and x-ray single crystal diffraction measurements were used to characterize all the compounds. And ligands were further performed by means of 1HNMR. Both of 5-methyl-L-glutamate (L1) and 5-ethyl-L-glutamate (L2) were bidentate ligands that coordinated to the metal ions by the mol.rate of 2:1 and formed complexes of structure of planar quadrangle. N, N-dicarboxylmethyl-L-glutamic acid (L3) was pentadentate ligands that coordinated to the metal ions by the mol. rate of 1:1 and formed complexes of structure of octahedron. N, N-dibenzyl-L-glutamic acid (L4) was tridentate ligands which coordinated to the metal ions by the mol. rate of 2:1 and formed complexes of structure of octahedron, too.The crystal structures of 5-methyl-L-glutamate (L1) and 5-ethyl-Z,-glutama-te (L2) which determined by x-ray diffraction, indicated that the structure of 5-methy 1-L-glutamate (L1) had been determined in the C2 monoclinic space group with a = 10.286(3)A, b = 4.6163(11)A, c = 17.111(4)A;fi = 104.995(4)° a nd the structure of L2 had been determined in the monoclinic P2(l) space group and two independent configuration with a = 9.691(3)A, b = 5.2631(17)A, c = 17. 297(6)A;β = 90.752(5)°. The structure of L1-Cu had beendetermined in the monoclinic P2/(l) space group with a = 9.5883(19) A, b = 5.1 521(10)A, c = 15.562(3)A;β = 98.65(3)°;the distances of Cu-0 bonds were 1.94 7(3) and 1.944(3)A respetively; The central ion Cu(II) was determined dimetric st ucture.Spectrophotometer and Colorimetry method were used to test for their activity on ATP hydrolysis. At the room temperature (25 ℃) and pH = 8.80 all the ligands andcomplexes of Co(II), Ni(II) had no activity;complexes of Cu(JI), Zn(II) had activity against hydrolysis, and Ca(II), Mg(II), Mn(II) had better activity.Concentration-dilution method is used to test the bactericided activity of Cu(II) compounds of 5-methyl-L-glutamate (LI) and 5-ethyl-L-glutamate (L2) against Staphylococcus aureus Rosenbach, Migula C, Ehrenberg. Coho and Proteus Vulgaris Hauser, complexes expressed good activity on Ehrenberg. Coho of bacteria.
