To solve the problem of high concentration of TP in municipal wastewater faced by zhuankou, wuhan city and to reduce the environmental pollution caused by the discharged wastewater at the same time, a research of municipal wastewater treatment was carried out in lab-scale and trial-scale. The aim of the research was to reduce phosphorus and turbidity in municipal wastewater by PAC1. Some single and composite coagulation treatment experiments were made in the lab-scale test and then PAC1- I and PAM-1 were used for municipal wastewater treatment in the trial-scale test on the basis of lab-scale test. In the trial-scale test, factors influencing phosphorus, turbidity and organic removal were studied including flux of wastewater, the kinds and dosage of the coagulants. The lab-scale test showed that the change of the removal of TP and turbidity was different from that of the removal of COD with increasing the coagulant. When considering simultaneous TP and turbidity removal, the optimum dosage of coagulants should be determined by the consumption of coagulants needed to achieve good phosphorus removal. PH had great effect on the removal of TP, turbidity and COD. Compared to many other flocculants in the lab-scale test, PAC1-1 was choosed as the optimum flocculant. The cooperation ability of PAC1 and diatomite for wastewater treatment was in some sort better than that of PAC1 and red mud. Single organic flocculant could not achieve good phosphorus and turbidity removal. PAM could in some extent improve the ability of PAC1 on reducing turbidity, but PDADMAC could not.The pilot scale experiments results showed that the vortex reactor had high resisistance to impact load. Treatment of municipal wastewater with the compounds of PAC1 and PAM had better phosphorus and turdibity removal than PAC1 alone, but it had no obvious effect on the removal of COD. Increasing the dosage of PAC1 could improve phosphorus removal. The research showed that the compounds of PAC1 and PAM for municipal wastewater treatment could achieve good simultaneous TP and turbidity removal, but how to improve the organic removal of the vortex reactor was needed to be further study.
