Raman spectroscopy (RS) is a kind of molecule scattering spectroscopy, which is characterized by the frequency excursion that can show the information of molecule. Every substance has its own feature Raman spectroscopy, which intensity is proportional to its concentration under certain condition. This is the basis of Raman spectroscopy to analyze the structure, components, concentrations and some other properties of samples. There are many advantages to investigate matter with RS, such as multi-chiose of the frequency of the laser, wide variety of detectable mass, nondestructive detect for the sample, feasible to water analysis, good sensitivity, feasibility of real-time and on the spot analysis, etc. The Raman technique has been confined to the only research purpose due to the high price of the Raman spectrometer and the analysis software. It's feasible to set up our own RS system for special purpose, for example detecting the pollutants in water. The key to realize the qualitative and quantitative analysis of pollutants in water is accurate Raman spectroscopy detecting system, high efficient computer technique for system control, data analysis and the consummate Raman database of the pure pollutants. These are questions that still require the thorough research .In this thesis, a detailed introduction for the theory of Raman spectroscopy is presented, including the characteristics and advantages. We also outline the current situation of Raman spectrometer, software for spectral analysis and the Raman database. Then, comes the emphases. We use separate elements to build a Raman system that can detect the pollutants in water. The way for Raman data processing is discussed in detail, including noise removing, spectrogram display, finding the characteristic frequency excursions, data analysis and data compression. We present the components of our Raman spectral database of pollutants in water. Finally, the present stage study and work are summarized and some future work is discussed.
