Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have become to be a hot topic of nano-technology for their unique characters and special tube structure made of graphite flakes since them have been discovered in 1991. More importantly, the highly-ordered nanotube array films have a variety of applications, such as high-density data storage and field emission display. Template method as a fabrication technique is very interesting for nano-technology and nano-structure fabrication science research field in the latest twenty years, moreover, nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) films are the most important templates. Development of nano-materials and their physical traits are briefly recited in this paper, especially the CNTs' structure properties, preparation techniques, growth mechanism and application are expounded in detail. The most contents of the dissertation are summarized as follows:The oxidization mechanism of AAO films and the experimental parameters were systematically analyzed. TEM (transmission electron microscope) and SEM (scanning electron microscope) were used to characterize the films structures. The results indicated that through changing different experimental conditions, metal aluminum can be anodized into regular nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide films whose pores diameter ranges from 3nm to 400nm and whose pores depth ranges from about several tens nanometers to about 100nm, and the each pores is composed of hexagon, the nanochannels are vertical to the template or film and parallel each other. The oxidization voltage and the diameter of hole was proportional in a certain range. The depth of hole gradually increased with the extend of oxidization time.Using ethyne as source gas, CNTs were successfully synthesized by CVD method. By comparing different synthesis technics, the influences of parameter to the grow of CNTs, such as catalysts, growth time, reaction temperature and ratio of all kinds of carrier gases were investigated. The results showed that the influence of carrier gas, reaction temperature, and the growth time on synthesis of CNTs was significant. In conclusion, a better condition for carbon nanotube growth was obtained. Throughanalyzing Raman Spectrum of samples, GM (graphite mode) and SWNTs' characteristic peak-RBM (Radial Breathing Mode) was indicated. Field emission properties of CNTs were systematically studied and the result showed that the prepared CNTs had better field emission properties with low turn-on field and high emission current density.Electrodeposition technique as an innovation method was attempted to prepare CNTs. As a result, just a few tubal material was observed in the samples, so the electrodeposition technique is limited in aspect of synthesizing CNTs.
