Due to the excellent comprehensive mechanical and physical properties of Al2O3p/Cu composites, It has been found a wide application prospect in the fields of modern electronic technology and electrotechnics. It is now a hotspot in the study of copper-based alloy. Among various fabrication methods of the composite, internal oxidation is a better way to obtain Al2O3p/Cu composites with excellent properties. As so far this method has some drawbacks such as complicated processes, high cost and so on. To solve this problem, the research on fabrication method of Al2O3p/Cu composites by internal oxidation has been carried out on the basis of theoretical and experimental analyses. (1) According to the characteristic of internal o xidation technology, the critical thermodynamics conditions of internal oxidation of solute element Al being selectively oxygened while Cu not being oxygened is analyzed theortically. Based on this, it is viable that a new technology using cuprious powders and high pure nitrogen as internal oxidation agent has been developed. (2) Experimental investigations on the kinetics of internal oxidation of Cu-Al alloy plates, cylinders, spheres, containing up to 0.94% mass pct Al were investigated around the temperature range 1023K to 1273K. Three different kinds of kinetic equations have been derived to describe the various internal oxidation of Cu-Al alloy with different features. The derived equations were checked experimentally by means of measuring the oxidation depth with internal oxidation time. The results show that the derived equations go well with the kinetics of internal oxidation of different Cu-Al alloys. Based on the three equations and the oxidation depth measurements, the permeability of oxygen in solid copper has been obtained respectively. (3) The hardness depends on temperature for different content Al2O3p/Cu composites after different cold work deformations were determined. The microstructures of the Al2O3 dispersion hardened Cu composites were ana lyzed by TEM. The behavior of recovery and recrystallization of Al2O3p/Cu composites at high temperature was discussed, which is helpfully for the preparing and applying Al2O3p/Cu Composites.
