Recently, time series analysis is widely used in a couple of fields such as meteorology, hydrology, economics and signal processing, through seventy-year development. Likewise, in the field of GIS, time series analysis is a necessary approach of spatial-temporal analysis because geographical events and changing geographical phenomena arranged in the order of time are also time series.In this paper, firstly, we summary the study status quo and study content of spatial-temporal analysis, then we work over the fundamental of time series, so that we can apply time series to spatial-temporal analysis in a few areas such as spatial-temporal data generalization, spatial-temporal data forecasting analysis, correlation analysis and spatial-temporal data interpolation, we detailed the selection, combination of the spatial-temporal data. Thirdly, after having investigated the character of the water quality data of Yangtze river in Three Gorge from 1996 to 2001, we build a Holt-Winters time series forecasting model to test spatial-temporal data forecasting analysis, we get the forecasting results of total water quality level in low water days of 2002, after comparing the forecasting level with the real level, we conclude that this approach is feasible because 70 per cent forecasting result is right. At last, we develop a querying and supervising system of water quality information to show spatial-temporal data, this program is based on ArcIMS, and divided into three tiers, i.e. expression tier, business tier and data tier. In the expression tier we use the HTMLVIEWER and internet explorer, in the business tier we get the request from web server with ArcIMS and access data stored in Oracle 9i through ArcSDE. Then we implement basic functions of GIS such as zoom in, zoom out, identify, and a few querying function of water quality, and we design user-friendly interface and four sorts of expressions of spatial-temporal data to efficiently release water quality information of Three Gorge.
