Separation science is an essential branch of science and technology. Nowadays,some leading industries, such as the biological technology and chiral resolution, havebrought many great challenges and opportunities for advanced separation technologies.As a result, the chromatographic and magnetic separation methods have gained theirpopularities in these fields, but these two technologies critically demands of highquality separation media, such as, the macroporous monodisperse microsphere andmonodisperse high-magnetic-responsive magnetic microsphere.In this paper, we devised two methods of producing of macroporous silica sphereand two manners of preparation magnetic sphere. Three kinds of macroporouspolymeric microspheres and a kind of polymeric magnetic sphere were prepared. Inaddition, two kinds of coating chiral stationary phases were prepared on the base ofthe macroporouse silica sphere we made. The characterization, evaluation andapplication of those media also have been performed to prove the quality of thosemedia.The two kinds of novel macroporouse silica sphere were made via the templatemethod. The polystyrene latex and ferric hydroxide were used as templates in theprocess of production of silica microsphere, and then the templates were removed togenerate the macro pore in the silica sphere.Two new types of magnetic spheres were produced with the manner of magneticconversion. First, the nonmagnetic monodisperes ferric hydroxide microsphere wasprepared on the base of urea formaldehyde resin. And then the the ferric hydroxidewere reducted to magnetite in the urea formaldehyde resin or the resin were removedby cremation and ferric oxide mcirosphere was obtained and after reduction the themagnetite microsphere was procduced with the extremely powerful magnetic response.Finally, the two kind of magnetic spheres were coated with the silicane couplingreagenent.
