With the development of textile industry, the period of the substitution of new products for old ones is getting increasingly shorter. But conventional textile design has a characteristic of low efficiency, so it can't meet with the quick-response of market. The development and application of fabric CAD systems not only has replaced the way of conventional design, but also bought huge economic and social effects. But there is a great difference between the fabric simulated from the present fabric CAD system and the real fabric, so how to improve the three-dimensional appearance of simulative fabric image is still a hot thesis in the field of designing fabric with computer.In this thesis, the software of fabric appearance simulation is developed with the yarn data obtained from the photoelectric yarn appearance testing device called YG122. We have mainly established mathematical models of textile weave, fabric geometry models, a fabric illumination model and a yarn twist model. The software which has the function of fabric texture design and the treatment for fabric appearance image is developed by VC++, as a result, simulated appearance images of common fabric are actual basically, and it also realizes the simulation ofcolored-and-weaved fabric.The main conclusions of this thesis are briefly summarized as follows:(1) Through analysing the structure of warp or weft intersection point, we establish the model of warp and weft unit. It solves the most basic problem of fabric simulation and set up a basis for fabric appearance simulation.(2) Based on boolean matrix, mathematical models of textile weave are established. According to the needs of computer design, the single feed textile weave is renewedly divided into regular weave and irregular weave. Regular weave and a part of irregular weave can be simulated correctly in the computer according to histological structure parameters;the other irregular weave which histological structure is complicated can be simulated by establishing a single model or inputting the known weave diagram.(3) In order to solve the size error between the simulated image and real fabric, we study fabric geometry models and apply the simplified circular cross-section geometry model and the simplified racetrack section geometry model to simulate fabric appearance according to the yarn density.(4) A fabric illumination model and its mathematical functions are established, and the way of gray treatment is applied to carry out the fabric appearance images that have a three-dimensional effect in the realvision condition.(5) A yarn twist model and its mathematical functions are established, which carries out the twist effect in the yarns of fabric that provides a better three-dimensional effect in the fabric appearance images.(6) Applying the theory of the realization of yarn color, a color weave model is established, which realizes the simulation of colored-and-weaved fabric through the arrangement of colored yarns.(7) Accomplish the developing of the software of fabric appearance simulation. The software indicates its good practicability after being debugged and the images have a good effect in the appearance simulation of common fabrics.Because of the effect of yarn data collection, the software is incapable of simulating the appearance of composed weaves such as multiple weave.
