This dissertation consists of three chapters. Chapter one is mainly about the research development of samarium metal and samarium/auxiliary system in organic synthesis;Chapter two is the studies of using the samarium /potassium iodide system to promote the synthesis of aryl carboxylic esters from corresponding aryl acetonitriles;And the last chapter discussed about synthesis of a-substituted aryl acetonitriles catalysized by phase transfer catalysis (PTC).There are two parts in chapter one. First, we summarized some researches in which samarium directly used in organic synthesis;Part two reviewed the applications of samarium/auxiliary system in organic synthesis, such as Sm/Metal halides;Sm/TMSCl.We introduced some indirect synthesis of aryl carboxylic esters in chapter two, and we found a novel way to synthesize aryl carboxylic esters from aryl acetonitriles with samarium/potassium iodide system in alcohols. We studied and optimized the reaction conditions. At last established the one that presented some advantages such as simple operation, mild and neutral condition. Then we analyzed results of the reactions and proposed a possible mechanism.There are also two parts in Chapter three. Part one we reviewed the synthesis of α -substituted aryl acetonitriles catalyzed by phase transfer catalysis. Part two was the research that aryl acetonitriles reacted with halide hydrocarbon to give α -substituted aryl acetonitriles under the PTC. We investigated the reactions to get good yields according to different substrates and proposed a possible mechanism.
