Eutrophication is a severe environmental problem that human beings face. Red tide in oceans and Algae Blooms in fresh water bodies, as characteristic of eutrophication, appear frequently, which can bring fatal impact to entironment and society. The Three Georges project, as a key project of Yangtze River exploitation, is a famous project. It had changed the hydrologic condition and eutrophication occured after impounding water from June 2003, by which the environmental impacts are produced. Algae blooms had happened in the main tributary and this influence became more and more severe with reservoir running. The study of eutrophication is so important to keep sustainable development of resource, environment, human beings and social economy. This thesis analyzes the study production of appearance, hypostasis and controlling measure of algae blooms around the world, and takes Xiangxi River for instance. By monitoring, estimating and analyzing water quality, reach traits, hydrologic situations and meteorologic conditions of backwater reachs during algae blooms, the pollutant characteristic of water quality is confirmed, then the nutriments conditions especially main characteristic factors of water quality and important reasons and general rules of birth and evolution of algae blooms during algae blooms are analysed. The further step is to supply scientic basis and technologic support for the prediction of algae blooms and water resouses protection of the Three Georges Reservoir. These measures are operable and usable in the management of The Three Georges reservoir. It is also a good measure for environmental protection.
