As a green chemical product, methyl ethyl carbonate(MEC) has been broadly used for its asymmetry. MEC has inimitable virtue for nonaqueous electrolyte in lithium ion electrochemical cells. Nowadays the price and purity of MEC astricts its great use, so explored a new synthesis process of MEC to reduce its cost is important.By analysis of several methods of preparation of MEC and comparing of catalysts, the heterogeneous catalysis process with ethanol(EtOH) and dimethyl carbonate(DMC) as start materials and solid alkali metals as catalysts was adopted.For the synthesis of MEC, the novel heterogeneous catalysts have been prepared by dipping, sol-gel and surface-coating technique. These catalysts' activity componets include alkali metals oxide, transition metals oxide and thulium oxide, assistant material include zinc oxide and ferric oxide. Carriers include alumina, active carbon and silica gel. Compared with other catalysts the catalyst H made up of alkali metals oxide and alumina has the highest activity.The effects of the mole ratio of DMC to EtOH, concentration of catalyst H and reaction temperature were investigated systematically, by analysis of heterogeneous catalysis process with EtOH and DMC as materials and solid alkali metals as catalysts. Get the best condition for industrialization by father optimize research: reaction temperature88℃-90℃, mole ratio of DMC/EtOH 2.8:1, catalyst H to EtOH 0.25:1.The activity of these catalysts which had the same components but different preparation ways were compared. Experimental results indicated catalyst H which was made by dipping technique and baking at 600℃ has the best activity and selectivity. Determined the service life of the catalyst H and its activity after regeneration. Determined its ρ_c was 1.059g/ml, average size was 277.528um,specific surface area S was 100.721m~2/g. At last determined its composition:, active component 5%, assistant material 8%, carriers 87%.
