With the development of society and improvement of people's living standard, the environment protection has been attached more and more importance nowadays. Been an effective facility for dealing with air pollutions with high efficiency, low resistance, large capacity and wide using range, electrostatic precipitator (ESP) has been employed and investigated increasingly. It's a basis for research, design and control work on electrostatic precipitator to establish a reliable, exact and integrated mathematical model of it. Unfortunately, the research on mechanism and mathematical model of ESP still lack for systematism because of the complexity of the physical processes in ESP, design and employment of ESP still greatly rely on statistical data derive from experience. These drawbacks result in many incoherencies between research work and practice.The main content and innovations of this paper are listed below:1. Study on the mechanism of ESP, investigate the mathematical model built in previous researches, and adopt their elites, to build a comparatively self-contained and exact mathematical model of ESP. The model contains several parts such as electric field, particle charge, particle collection and nonideal factors, solves a set of consistent, interacted and nonlinear equations, ravels out the limits of some semi-experience models, in order to study and control on the facility, moreover, establish a well-knit basis for further studies.2. Study on the conventional way of ESP design, combine with the pre-built mathematical model and the feature of industry process, to improve the conventional way for ESP design, and bring forward a method for optimized design based on fuzzy logic and multi-object optimization. The method fuzzes up the objectives in ESP design, boils them down to problems of maximizing the membership of "excellence", and solves the multi-object optimize problem using the method of weighting and divarication to get a feasible answer for ESP design.3. Design and code a simulation/design platform for ESP using open source software SCILAB combined with TCL/TK language. Simulate on themathematical model built in this paper to validate it, and investigate on the impacts of parameters and nonideal factors which influence the physical process and reduce the efficiency of ESP. Simulate on the outcome of optimized design.
