This article electroplates aluminum on the substrate of 08F steel and AZ91D magnesium alloy. The composition of the bath was roughly 60 vol% benzene with 1 mol dm-3 AlCl3 and LiAlH4, an AlCl3:LiAlH4 mole ratio of 3:1 and an THF: benzene volume ratio of 6:4. In this studying, the pretreatment processes of electroplating aluminum on the substrate of steel and magnesium alloy ,the composition and properties of the coatings are analyzed based on the results of SEM and XRD and electrochemical polarization experiments.The steel and iron are an important role in the country economics, the reason that the corrosion occurs easily on the materials of steel and iron bring the country a serious economic expense. Magnesium is the lightest metal structural materials now, many properties of magnesium make it a wide use in auto manufacturing field, mechanical manufacturing field, and computer manufacturing. However, the oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of magnesium are bad. The application of magnesium alloy has alimition. The electroplating aluminum coating is one method of the protection of metal materials'surface.The electroplating aluminum coatings have a better corrosion resistance and a better oxidation resistance, the electroplating aluminum coatings as the substitution of electroplating Zn and Cd has aexpensive future.
