| The characters, development and process of Vermicular Graphite Cast Iron (VGCI) were discussed, and then the main reason of diesel locomotive VGCI cylinder head leakage was analyzed. Based on the leakage defect of diesel locomotive cylinder produced with low phosphor iron, the comparative analysis was carried out for VGCI produced with Re-Si alloy and RE-Mg-Ti alloy vermicularizer.RE-Mg-Ti alloy is used as vermicularizer in producing VGCI cylinder head with raw materials of the common Baoji and Beitai low-Phosphor iron. The alloy elements of vermicularizer can eliminate the interference of nocuous trace elements. The high quality melt were got with good fluidity and small amount of slag, which is good for feeding and reducing leakage rate of VGCI cylinder head. For the common low phosphor iron, the leakage rate of VGCI cylinder head treated with RE-Mg-Ti alloy as vermicularizer is much lower than with RE-Si alloy. Also the process with RE-Mg-Ti alloy as vermicularizer is more stable with RE-Si alloy. The productive practices indicates that the manufacture of VGCI cylinder head using RE-Mg-Ti alloy as vermicularizer can relatively broaden the need of raw materials, and improve the product quality, and mitigate the dependence on Benxi low-P iron. |
