Toilet has very important function in the people's daily life. But the traditional toilets havemany disadvantages. They waste water resources and pollute the environment. At the sametime, the collections and conveyance of the excrement need to consume a great deal ofmanpower and material resources. Nowadays, under the principle of continuable development,it is necessary to carry on the revolution of the toilet. Many environmental protections toiletemerged with the tide of the times.Japanese have researched a kind of non-flush ecological toilet, which constructs arectangular pond under the toilet bowl, and sawdust as a matrix. The principle of this toilet isusing fermentation of demand oxygen microorganism to concert feces to water, carbondioxide and dry organic fertilizer. The feces drop into the pond to mix with sawdust directly. The whole process does not need water flush. Compared with the traditional toilet, this toiletneither wastes the water resources, nor needs the sewerage system. Moreover, it producescompost, which can be used for gardening or even for food production. If this kind ofbio-toilet using in China, the key problem is the source of matrix (sawdust). In Japan, onereason of using sawdust as matrix is that the sawdust has good function of decomposing feces. The other is that sawdust is a kind of discard in Japan and the yield is big. In our country, thetimber resources are short. Therefore, we need to look for a substitute, which can replacesawdust as matrix and can be applied widespread. The cornstalk is similar to the sawdust on the character. There are abundant of cornstalkin our country, but the utilization is very low. A large number of cornstalk was desert oropen-air incineration, or to keep cow. That not only wasted great deal of valuable resources, but also will result in polluting the environment. If using cornstalk as matrix to decomposefeces in bio-toilet, which not only can reduce pollution to protect environment, but also canconcert the discard to useful resources and promote virtuous cycle of the material and energyin agriculture production. On the basis of Gao and Japanese research, this paper researched on treatment fecesusing two different size cornstalk as matrix in bio-toilet, and the S-15 bio-toilet presented byJapan Science and Technology Agency as the equipment. The changes in temperature, watercontent, pH, organic matter, N, P, K and C/N were investigated in the experiment. The resultsshowed that the big size cornstalk is more suitable than the small size cornstalk as matrix inthe bio-toilet.The dry weight reduction rates of the mixture were 52.1% and37.3%respectively. The degradation rate of big size cornstalk as matrix is higher than that ofsmall size cornstalk as matrix. The period of former is 31 days and that of the latter is 37 days. The final pH were 8.13 and 8.02 respectively. The final C/N were 15.68and 13.76respectively. In addition, the final remains all contain plenty of N, P and K and can be used asorganic fertilizer.
