Since the yield of the heavy oil in the world increase gradually, extracting and transporting the oil became the main problem in petroleum industry for the heavy oil which is high viscosity and bad fluidity. The viscosity of the heavy oil is sensible to the temperature, so heating becomes the main way to extract and transport the heavy oil. But heating the heavy oil by the traditional methods is often inefficient and slow because the heavy oil has low thermal conductivity. Aim at this problem, microwave energy is used to heating heavy oil. Mechanics of microwave heating is that the vector of polarizability which is generated by dielectric polarization lag behind electric an angle when the heavy oil in the function of electromagnetism, so lead to the generation of current which is in the same phase of electric, constitute power dissipation of heavy oil, and cause the physical volume heating. The high efficiency and rapidity have been found in the experiment of heating the heavy oil by microwave radiation.Covered with the electromagnetism and heat exchange, the theory and calculation of microwave heating are difficult. Utilizing electromagnetic and thermal knowledge, studied the FEM theory of microwave heating, and acquired a mathematics method to solve the electromagnetism-thermal coupling problem in it. The temperature of microwave heating and the heating time are estimated by the test during the exploitation. The control of temperature is based on the experiences of worker and spot test. This paper advanced that using the finite element simulation method, couple of electromagnetic field and temperature field of heating process are simulated and analyzed during the heavy oil exploitation. First, the circle wave is simulated, the distribution of electromagnetic filed in the lossless wave is obtained. Then the electromagnetic field and temperature field in the circle wave which is heavy oil-overflowed are obtained, and the relationship among the driving power, temperature of heavy oil and the heating time is presented. By virtue of the critical temperature of heavy oil and the driving power, the heating time is estimated, parameters which are needed in the microwave heating areoffered for optimum design. At the end, the mechanism of the viscosity reduction of the heavy oil radiated by microwave has been studied.
