Study Of The Process And Mechanism On A New CO₂-Cured Phenol-Formaldehyde Resin With Cold-Core Box Material Used In Foundry

Presently, resin materials used widely in foundry industry are poisonous and contaminative. Research on a new resin binder with top-quality, high-efficiency, save-energy and safe-environment is in a serious demand for the development in green casting and intensive production. In this paper, the studies on the technological process and mechanism of a new CO₂ -hardened alkaline resol phenol-aldehyde resin used with cold-core box in foundry has been developed to meet this demand.In summary, this study is divided into several sequences as follows:Firstly, through the research on the synthetic mechanism, the synthesis of the resin and effect of all the factors on the properties of the resin sand, the optimum synthetic process has been achieved. The optimum technological parameters of the synthetic resin and the prescription of the raw materials have been got. Consequently, an alkaline phenol-aldehyde resin desired binding function has been obtained.Secondly, the amount of dispersant agent, cross-linking agent, coupling agent and organic active agent have been researched systematically. According to being chosen the compression strength as the main factor in test, the optimum prescription of amount has been found out by orthogonal designs. What is more,we have analysed fractures with SEM photographs. Hardening mechanism of the resin binder also has been discussed. Meanwhile, we have studied the cirrhosis process of rate and time of passing CO₂ and found out the optimum one.In the next, bench time, gas evolution, collapsibility and amount of CO₂ -hardening alkaline resol phenol-aldehyde resin binder composition have been tested. It has preferable technological properties.Finally, the sand moulding with the binder is used to make a Al-alloy casting.
