The non-wood and fast growing tree may alleviate the shortage of raw fibrous materials for pulping industry. The bamboo is abundant in China, and natural distributes the areas from north latitude 18 to 38 degree and east longitude 92 to 122 degree. It has long history that the bamboo was being employed for papermaking since Jin Dynasty. There are several bamboo pulp mills that had already produced the bamboo pulp to industry. It is well known that the bamboo is easily to be attacked by mildew during storage. There are six months that not fit fell bamboo every year. It is necessary to investigate the characteristics of Kraft pulping and bleaching from the mildewing bamboo. Three most common mildews were used for bamboo mildewy treatment, such as Trichlderma sp., Aspergillus niger. and Rhizopus. Then analyse the several kinds materials and it's pulp and bleached paper. The chemical compositions of the mildewy and fresh bamboos were compared, and the characteristics of Kraft pulping and bleaching were investigated. The results show that:1. When fresh bamboo attacked by mildew, the febre will become loosen than fresh bamboo.2. There are a lot of mycelium grow on the bamboo surface, Aspergillus niger made bamboo black than fresh bamboo, Rhizopus made bamboo brown.3. The alcohol-benzene extraction and 1% NaOH extraction of the mildewy bamboo were lower than those of the fresh bamboo. The Kraft pulps from the mildewy bamboo was slight lost due to the mildewing treatment.4. And the mildewy bamboo chips gave a little bit better characteristics of pulping and bleaching than the fresh bamboo chips. And get lower kappa number.5. There was no signigicant effect of pulping and bleaching of the Kraft pulp from the mildewy bamboo except which becomes rot.6. According to research, intensity of the paper from mildewy bamboo not lower than the paper from fresh bamboo.
