The position of the safety in mine is very critical in China currently. The gas explosion accident occurred frequently, which leaded to a great deal of the death and injurer of workers and the destruction of equipments in mine. It becomes the first of the most important assignment for the safety production in mine to prevent the gas explosion accident. It is also an aspect of achieving the simultaneous extraction of coal and coal bed gas. The gas explosion accident is result in the action of many factors, which relates to many difficult questions of theories and experiments. The difficult course of gas explosion accident leads to the limitation of the techniques used to prevent gas explosion accident. The study, which is about the optical character of gas explosion in mine in the forepart especially in the induction period, offers the new technique for studying the mechanism of gas explosion deeply and the data for developing the techniques of detecting gas explosion and is the base of developing the techniques of controlling gas explosion.In this paper the concept of the induction periods before gas explosion is discussed base on the former mechanism of gas explosion. The factors of affecting the induction periods are discussed and analyzed base on the former data of gas explosion experiment. The former equipment system of gas explosion experiment is improved. The gas explosion experiments are made by the high speed photography in the different concentration of gas in the air. The data are analyzed by software named MATLAB used to analyze photos. The spread character of the visible light foreland emitted by the gas explosion in the gas explosion forepart is analyzed. Base on this and the theories about the induction periods, the way of confirming the induction periods before gas combustion and explosion is educed and the induction periods in the experiment is confirmed.
