The ball-end mill has extensive application during NC machining. The simulation of milling force is an important part of NC machining simulation, by which the change and effect of the milling force can be inspected. Therefore,the simulation of milling force has an important direction to machining, and it can greatly increase efficiency and create more profit.Milling force simulation of the ball-end mill is investigated in the thesis and the relevant simulation modules are integrated into"Winopen"simulation system which is developed by Research Center of CAD/CAM Engineering, NUAA. The main research work and achievements are as following:1. The relevant force models are researched and a milling force model for ball-end mill is gained based on the relation of milling force and chip, which meets any advance direction.2. Key technology of milling force simulation is deeply researched. By judging if the grids of workpiece's surface are removed, a method to catch cutting information during geometric simulation is proposed.3. The iterative relation of milling force and chip is studied. The milling force model of ball-end mill is obtained and the machining error is researched due to the deformation of the cutter.4. The cutter runout is deeply researched, and an algorithm of the ball-end mill runout is presented by the force measured during of machining horizontal slot.
