In the present dissertation, a polychloroprene latex was prepared by copolymerization of methacrylatic acid (MAA) with chloroprene in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as an emulsifier. The stable emulsion polymerization system was obtained by the research of the process of polymerization. The latex was qualitatively studied by the way of light scattering, electron microscopic projection, gravity test and viscometry. In the first part of this dissertation, the effect of water-oil ratio on emulsion polymerization was investigated: under higher water-oil ratio (> 1.40) polymerization can be carried out smoothly; when water-oil ratio was decreased, latex became gel during polymerization. Suitable brand of polyvinyl alcohol was screened out. Other non-ionic and ionic emulsifiers had adverse effect on the emulsion polymerization. The high viscosity problem was solved effectively by addition of glycol ether and seed latex polymerization. The viscosity of the latex also can be decreased by lower...
