In this thesis, Octaphenylsilsesquioxane(POSS1), Octa(nitrophenyl)-silsesquioxane (POSS2) were synthesized by hydrolytic condensation of phenyltrichlorosilane using the method of molecule design. The optimal condition of reaction was conformed by analysis of relation between condition and productions. The thermal property was characterized by DSC. The crystal structures of POSS were determined by Wide-Angle X-ray Diffraction (WAXD). The indexing results showed that the crystal belong to the tetragonal structure.Octa(nitrophenyl)silsesquioxane - modified acrylate emulsion was synthesized by a semi -continuous polymerization. The particle size distribution showed that the Octa(nitrophenyl)silsesquioxane particles homogeneously disperse in the emulsion at a nanometer scale.
